Excretion - Kidneys- Nephron-Human excretory system
EXCRETION
Excretion is the elimination of wastes produced by the body. Excretory systems regulate the chemical composition of body fluids by removing metabolic wastes and retaining the proper amounts of water, salts, and nutrients.Components of this system in vertebrates include the, liver, lungs, kidneys, and skin.
Liver: The liver breaks down excess amino acids and produces urea. Liver breakdowns hemoglobin into bilirubin. is excreted with the bile into the intestine and expelled with the faeces.
Lungs: The lungs supply the body with oxygen, but they are also excretory organs because they get rid of carbon dioxide.
Kidneys: The kidneys remove urea and other nitrogenous waste from the blood. They also expel excess water, salts, hormones and drugs.
Skin: skin is the larges organ of the body. Sweat consists of water, with sodium chloride and traces of urea dissolved in it. When you sweat, you will excrete these substances from your body.
Human excretory system:
The excretory system of man comprises of kidneys, ureters, urinary bladder and urethra. The kidneys are a pair of bean-shaped organs present in all vertebrates. They remove waste and extra fluids from the body.
Kidney:The kidneys are at the back of the abdominal cavity, with one sitting on each side of the spine. The right kidney is generally slightly smaller and lower than the left, to make space for the liver.
Ureter: From the depression of each kidney a tube called ureter emerges and runs downwards to open into the urinary bladder in the lower part of the abdomen. The Ureter carry urine from the kidney to the urinary bladder.
Urinary Bladder: It is an elastic muscular bag. It stores urine. When the urinary bladder is full it allows the urine to flow through the urethra
Urethra: It is a tube for the passage of urine out of the body.
Blood Vessels: The renal artery branches off from the aorta and brings the oxygenated blood to the kidney. the renal vein takes deoxygenated away to vena cava.
